Cistercian monastery Plasy – The former monastery is situated in a small town of Plasy in the Western Bohemia. You can admire the technical parameters of the building here and at the same time, the high quality architecture of J. B. Mathey and J. B. Santini-Aichel or the extensive pharmacy exhibition. However, the icing on the cake here is Santini’s Baroque cantilevered staircase, the view from which will make your jaw drop. It is not only beautiful, but also photogenic.
Discover Czech Lands: City of Pilsen – The European Capital of Culture
The city is dominated by the St. Bartholomew Cathedral, which has the highest church tower in the Czech Republic. From the tower, there is a beautiful view of the historic city centre and the wooded hills of the Plzen Basin. A strong Jewish community formed in Plzen in 1893 around the Great Synagogue, which is the third largest in the world. Proof of Plzen’s importance is its victory in the competition for the title of European Capital of Culture for 2015.
